It was a typical day for the sixteen-year-old. Chilling on the couch with Brooklynn, watching endless reruns of Dr. Phil on the La-Z-Boy no matter how many times she proclaimed he hated the man... It was relaxing for July, and she had just kicked her feet onto her mother's new decorative pillow. She wouldn't mind, would she? " What're your plans for today, Brookie? " the blue-haired teenager yawned nonchalantly, watching the so-called "doctor" fold and refold his hands time and time again (If I were in the audience, I'd throw something at him, the girl mischievously thought). "Nothing," her blond best friend chirped back from the floor. Brooklynn preferred the ornate carpet to eat her ice cream rather than the comfy couch KC was now perched on, but whatever. More room for her. "Hang out with you, y'know?" Kristy threw the girl a dirty look and licked her stainless steel spoon. " Nothing important, I see, " she jabbed back sarcastically. She could practically hear Brooklynn's blue orbs widen, she knew her so well. "I didn't mean-..." KC let out her signature laugh and reached for the tub of Edy's at her feet. " I'm just messing with ya. "

"Why're we here again?" clueless Brookie inquired, taking a dainty sip from her mocha-latte. "Besides the Starbucks, I mean," she added with a "very-Brooklynn-ish" giggle. " I like books, " KC grinned up at her tall, lanky friend and ran her spindly fingers across manga spines. She could spend hours here, or at least until she was done reading all the books in this store. The ones that caught her eye, anyways. " Don't you? I see you reading all the time.

She smiled warmly at KC from behind her paper cup, her freckles like cinnamon flecks on her rosy, upturned face. "That's Vogue, you idiot," she joked. But KC knew that she liked it here. After all, they could see someone here.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Mabel shuffled in her seat, her yellow eyes scanning the book she was reading. She let out a quiet sigh, trying not to disturb the elderly man sitting next to her. She had picked up a romance novel, just as she always did. Maybe because her life lacked romance. She wasn't what you would call a princess. She was, in fact, a tomboy. Her fingers twitched on the page nervously, and she could sense the old man was watching her. She looked up from her book. Just as she had suspected, the man was watching her like she had elf ears. Mabel's gaze fluttered back down to her book. She was well aware that she was nowhere near the Young Adult section. She didn't like sitting with kids her age, because most of them were either older than her or barely old enough to call themselves a teen. Mabel was on the other side of the store, in the Gardening section. The old man clearly didn't enjoy her presence. Mabel didn't want to be rude though, and she looked around the book store, hoping she would have some excuse to leave her spot. Then she saw a girl and her friend. It was KC, a girl from Mabel's school. She instantly jumped out off her seat and headed for KC. "Hey KC!" she said.

The following days had been blaa for the blue-haired teenager, so being at the bookstore was like being in her own little sanctuary. Just a place where she could finish the Pretty Little Liars series, since the morning's events weren't exactly ideal. It was muggy and as sticky as the melting chocolate ice cream she had polished off after breakfast (gross, sure, but this was a daily routine she wasn't about to break), and her cousin Tanzie had joined her reading marathon upon the La-Z-Boy. Tanzie was carrying a book with her, too, so she assumed that she would be reading as well, which was fine with KC, so long as she didn't break her reading mantra. But no- the radio had been blaring Kings of Leon, because KC read surprisingly well with the radio on, and Tanzie felt obliged to sing. What had been going on with Tanzie lately, KC wondered- she seemed so nice, regular Tanzie when she arrived in the Falls. It was heaven when her ramen finished cooking so she could get away from her. So she was glad to be with one of her best friends at the book store, with no Tanzie in range or sight.
"Hey KC!" Thank God it wasn't Tanzie, KC thought with a mischievous grin. No, it was Mabel Fox, one of her friends from the school she attended, and, since Brooklynn knew her somewhat, the blond threw her a smile from where she sat in the book store's cafe. Regular ol' Brookie, KC mused, cafe obsessed, just how we like her. " Hi Mabes, " the girl chirruped back, traipsing over to the tomboy. In one hand, KC spotted a romance novel, and that made her flinch some. Mabel Fox? Reading a romance novel? Don't make me laugh, KC grinned at herself, and seeing that was sorta mean, she perused the bookstore, trying to pretend nothing happened. She couldn't help it- she was mean every now and then, just like everyone else. Still, it was mean, and she scolded herself inside her head. " What brings you here? " she asked.

"Oh, I come here every now and then," Mabel said. It was true, she came here regularly. She turned to KC's blonde friend. "Hey Brook!" she exclaimed. Mabel was lucky to have seen them. The old man behind them had surely seen her talking to them, and Mabel was relieved that it didn't look like she had just wanted to get away from him. That was true, though, and Mabel was suddenly embarrased when she realized she wouldn't have approached KC and Brooklyn if she wasn't sitting next to the man. She could feel his gaze burning through her skull, like he could see right through him. She ducked behind the nearest bookshelf, trying to busy herself. "Know any good books?" she asked them.
